Entrevista a Joey Tempest y Mic Michaelli por Mónica Catedo López

Bueno pues aquí estamos de nuevo bienvenidos a este espacio dedicado a EUROPE esto se pone cada vez emocionante espero que les guste.

El principal producto de exportación sueca de rock fue programado para tener su bautismo Descargar el viernes, pero los acontecimientos en forma de condiciones climáticas adversas y los atascos de tráfico hizo imposible para Europe para realizar su conjunto. Poco después del anuncio de la cancelación de una multitud muy decepcionada, me encontré con el cantante Joey Tempest y el tecladista Mic Michaeli en su cabina de aderezo para saber más. Después de cruzar los campos embarrados a mí mismo para ser un testigo de su debut tan esperado se sentía reconfortante estar en el interior y compartir sus sentimientos.

Entonces, ¿cómo fue el concierto?

Joey Tempest: Corto, el menor espectáculo que hemos hecho. Tan corto que no existía.

¿Qué pasó

JT: Hemos tenido un día terrible. Se inició esta mañana. Yo vivo en Inglaterra, pero me fui al aeropuerto de Heathrow y, como todo el mundo iba a venir de diferentes lugares, uno de los vuelos fue de dos horas de retraso, así que nos fuimos de Heathrow muy tarde. Pensamos que podíamos hacerlo después conducimos y habia un buen de trafico por el mal clima. Estábamos sentados en el tráfico durante dos horas . Pero al final del día tuvimos que suspender porque queríamos hacer un gran espectáculo en lugar de uno muy corto y extraño, sin la comprobación de la línea. Nos sentimos muy mal por ella. Algunos fans vinierón  hasta aquí sólo para vernos tocar. Hemos crecido oyendo hablar de Castle Donington, Download Festival, y esta sería nuestra experiencia de descarga en primer lugar. Hemos tenido un día terrible y  extrañas emociones, porque nunca habíamos tenido esto! Que nos pasó en el último minuto, de verdad. Así que es muy extraño.

¿Ha sido invitado a tocar el año que viene?

JT: Tenemos una buena relación con la descarga y nadie está enojado con nadie. Son sólo las condiciones climáticas lamentables, por lo que estamos con muchas ganas de volver el año que viene y tocar Descargar.

Antes de eso, estarás de vuelta en el Reino Unido en una gira en noviembre / diciembre. ¿Qué puedes decirnos acerca de la lista de canciones para los shows?

Mic Michaeli: Para  la gira que definitivamente van a tocar algunas canciones del nuevo álbum. Estábamos hablando incluso de tocar todo el disco, pero que probablemente no va a suceder. Todos sentimos que este álbum se ha reducido tan bien con nuestros fans ahí fuera, así que definitivamente vamos a tocar algunas canciones de ella, pero por supuesto que vamos a tocar algunas canciones  viejas también. Se siente realmente bien para nosotros. Creo que los fans quieren escuchar un montón de las canciones del nuevo álbum, así que tendremos una gran cantidad de enfoque en "BAG OF BONES '.

¿Cuál fue el setlist previsto para la descarga? ¿Se han incluido 'Bag of Bones ", que es mi nueva canción favorita?

JT: Fue sólo ocho o nueve canciones. Decidimos todo en el último minuto, pero tuvimos tres nuevas canciones: 'Riches to Rags', 'Not supposed to Sing The Blues "y" Firebox ", y tal vez" Demon Head  ". No hemos introducido "Bag of Bones " para el concierto  todavía. Creo que va a ser más de nuestra Bag  of Bones Tour. Es sólo para los  festivales de este verano y  por lo general son sgiras cortas, más explosivo. Las primeras canciones que hemos introducido desde 'Bag of Bones  "son" Riches to Rags ... "," Firebox "y" Not Supposed to Sing ". En el otoño, probablemente agregará tres o cuatro más.

¿Qué otras canciones ibas a tocarr aquí en descarga?

JT: Otras canciones de las que hablamos fue 'Scream Of Anger "," Rock The Night "," Superstisious "y" The Final Countdown'. Sólo ocho o nueve canciones.

Para el álbum de estudio, se ha ido con Kevin Shirley y lo grabó casi en vivo. Para su siguiente álbum, ¿irías con él de nuevo como productor?

MM: No hay planes todavía. Vamos a estar de gira este y el próximo año y luego a principios de 2014 vamos a escribir algunas canciones e ir all estudio. Hablamos con Kevin y él realmente quiere hacer otro álbum con nosotros, así que espero que podamos trabajar nuestros horarios y hacerlo porque realmente lo disfrutamos y nos la  pasamos muy bien. Él nos enseñó un montón de cosas, o al menos nos hizo conscientes de que en realidad se puede dejar algunos rincones sucios. Tenemos un gran respeto por los demás.

Antes de ir con él, ¿escuchaste a otros álbumes que ha producido, al igual que Joe Bonamassa o Mr. Big, por ejemplo?

JT: Todos sabíamos acerca de Kevin Sherley porque él ha estado presente durante mucho tiempo. Hizo THE Black crows, Aerosmith y .Journey Staff  Lo que joden nuestras mentes era su producción con Bonamassa, 'The Ballad Of John Henry ". Estábamos escuchando a él en el vestuario y hablar de que él debe estar en el mismo planeta que nosotros, ya que había sonado tan bien. Así que le llamé. Ha hecho muchos álbumes, algunos discos que nos guste más que otros, pero creo que es uno de los mejores productores del mundo.

¿Has hablado con alguna de las bandas antes de trabajar con él?

MM: En realidad no. Hablamos con Joe Bonamassa un poco, pero hemos querido tomar nuestra propia decisión. Nos reunimos con él un par de meses antes de que decidiéramos trabajar con él y parece que ha funcionado realmente bien, socialmente.
JT: Kevin tiene esta racha con todas sus producciones. Suenan muy honesto y eso es lo que nos gusta. Él es un productor muy bueno.
MM: Europe nunca ha utilizado el mismo productor de dos discos en una fila, así que si trabajamos con Kevin, .
JT: Es un gran momento, ya que será nuestro décimo álbum también.

Mirando hacia atrás, ¿cómo ha sido tu viaje en su carrera musical?

JT: Es increíble que hemos venido aquí hoy. Cinco de nosotros, los mismos tipos haciendo tal vez nuestro álbum más exitoso desde los años 80 con respecto a las revisiones y las posiciones de la carta. Ha sido un viaje asombroso. Tenemos mucha suerte.

Se lo mereces, chicos!

MM: Creo que somos un poco como los exploradores de nuestro propio universo musical y es fantástico tener a esas personas que nos acompañan en el viaje.
JT: Y es más la gente que viene a lo largo de todo el tiempo.  comenzará a ver las generaciones más jóvenes con 'Bag of Bones"

¿Has comenzado a escribir nuevas canciones todavía?

JT: No, todavía no. Todo lo que viene de las giras. Hacemos todas las decisiones en el vestuario. Tocamos música el uno al otro y hablamos sobre el alma de la banda y hacia dónde vamos. Y no ha sucedido aún porque 'BAG OF BONES ' es tan dulce y lo quiero mucho.

Hay algo más que quieran agregar?

JT: Tenemos muchas ganas  de tocar  Bag of Bones  " y llegar a todos los rincones del mundo.

 
MM: ¡Amén!.

Interview with Joey Tempest and Mic Michaeli by Mónica Castedo-López

HI Guys welcome to this blog dedicated to EUROPE ,I have news this is a new interview with Joey and Mic enjoy it:.

The biggest Swedish rock export was scheduled to have their Download baptism on the Friday, but events in the shape of adverse weather conditions and traffic jams made it impossible for Europe to perform their set. Shortly after the announcement of the cancellation to a very disappointed crowd, I met up with singer Joey Tempest and keyboardist Mic Michaeli in their dressing cabin to find out more. Having crossed the muddy fields myself to be a witness of their highly anticipated Download debut and making the same unpleasant journey back, it felt comforting to be indoors and share their feelings.

So, how was the gig?!

Joey Tempest: Short, the shortest show we’ve ever done. So short it didn’t exist.

What happened?

JT: We had a terrible day. It started this morning. I live in England but I went to Heathrow and, as everyone was coming from different places, one of the flights was two hours late, so we left Heathrow very late. We thought we could make it and we were driving and then we hit the bad weather and traffic again. We were sitting in traffic for another two hours and we almost made it. But at the end of the day we had to call it off because we wanted to do a great show rather than a very short and strange one without line checking. We feel terrible about it. Some fans made it here just for us and we wanted to play. We grew up hearing about Castle Donington, Download Festival, and this would be our first Download experience. We had a terrible day and it’s strange emotions because we never had this! Happened to us at the last minute, really. So it’s very strange indeed.

Have you been invited to play next year?

JT: We have a good relation with Download and nobody is angry with anybody. It’s just unfortunate weather conditions, so we are very much looking forward to coming back next year and playing Download.

Before that, you’ll be back in the UK on a tour in November/December. What can you tell us about the setlist for those shows?

Mic Michaeli: For that tour we are definitely going to play a few songs from the new album. We were even talking about playing the whole album, but that is probably not going to happen. We all feel that this album has gone down so well with our fans out there, so we are definitely going to play some songs from it, but of course we are going to play some of the old stuff too. It feels really good to us. I think the fans want to hear a lot of the songs from the new album so we will have a lot of focus on ‘Bag of Bones’.

What was the planned setlist for Download? Would it have included ‘Bag Of Bones’, which is my favourite new track?

JT: It was only eight or nine songs. We decide everything on the last minute, but we had three new songs: ‘Riches To Rags’, ‘Not Supposed To Sing The Blues’ and ’Firebox’, and maybe ’Demon Head’. We haven’t introduced ‘Bag Of Bones’ to the set yet. I think it will be more for our big Bag Of Bones Tour. It’s only festivals this summer and it’s usually shorter sets, more explosive. The first songs we’ve introduced from ’Bag Of Bones’ are ’Riches…’, ’Firebox’ and ‘Not Supposed…’ . In the autumn we will probably add three or four more

What other songs were you planning to play here at Download?

JT: Other songs we talked about was ’Scream Of Anger’, ‘Rock The Night’, ‘Superstitious’ and ‘The Final Countdown’. Only eight or nine songs.

For the studio album, you have gone with Kevin Shirley and recorded it pretty much live. For your next album, would you go with him again as a producer?

MM: There are no plans yet. We are going to be touring this and next year and then at the beginning of 2014 we’re going to write some songs and go in the studio. We talked to Kevin and he really wants to make another album with us, so hopefully we can work our schedules and do it because we really enjoyed it and had a great time. He taught us a lot of things or at least he made us aware that you can actually leave some dirty corners. We have great respect for each other.

Before you decided to go with him, did you listen to other albums he’s produced, like Joe Bonamassa or Mr. Big, for instance?

JT: All of us knew about Kevin Sherley because he’s been around for a long time. He did The Black Crows, Aerosmith and Journey staff. What blew our minds was his production with Bonamassa, ‘The Ballad Of John Henry’. We were listening to it in the dressing room and talking that he must be on the same planet as we are because it sounded so good. So we called him up. He‘s done so many album, some albums we like better than others but I think he’s one of the best producers in the world. 

Have you spoken to any of the bands before you worked with him?

MM: Not really. We spoke to Joe Bonamassa [who guests on the album] a little bit, but we wanted to make our own decision. We met him a couple of months before we decided to work with him and it seemed to work out really well, socially as well.
JT: Kevin has this streak with all his productions. They sound really honest and that is what we like. He’s a really good producer.
MM: Europe has never used the same producer on two albums in a row, so if we work with Kevin, it will be the first time ever.
JT: It’s a big moment as it will be our tenth album too.

Looking back, how has your journey been in your musical career?

JT: It’s just amazing that we came here today. Five of us, the same guys doing maybe our most successful album since the 80s with regards to reviews and chart positions. It’s been an amazing journey. We’re very lucky.

You deserve it, guys!

MM: I think we are a bit like explorers of our own musical universe and it’s fantastic to have those people who have joined us on the journey.
JT: And it’s more people coming along all the time. You start to see younger generations with ‘Bag Of Bones’.

Have you started writing new songs yet?

JT: No, not yet. All that comes from touring. We make all the decisions in the dressing room. We play music to each other and we talk about the soul of the band and where we are going. And it hasn‘t happened yet because ‘Bag Of Bones’ is so fresh and we love it so much.

Anything you would like to add?

JT: We just look forward to playing ‘Bag Of Bones’ and coming to all corners of the world.
MM: Amen!
